01

Before your color

If dyeing your hair has ever left your scalp itchy or sore, or you keep putting off color because of a flaky or irritated scalp, this is the color service to look at. Many colorists ask for a small patch test ahead of time to see how your skin reacts to the dye. Medical sources point out that a patch test cannot rule out every reaction, and that a dye allergy can show up even after years of coloring.

02

During your color appointment

A scalp care color appointment follows the same steps as any color visit, with the scalp kept in mind at each one. As colorists generally describe it, the formula is often a milder one, such as a color made without ammonia or PPD, and a protective serum may be smoothed onto the scalp before the color goes on. The color is then mixed, applied to the hair, given time to develop and rinsed out.

Our everyday work is with scalps that flake, itch or feel dry, oily or irritated, so the state of your scalp is the first thing we look at when you sit down with us.

After your color

Aftercare for color done with the scalp in mind usually comes down to gentle habits at home, starting with a mild shampoo picked to keep the scalp calm and the color fresh. How often people come back for color depends on how quickly their roots show and on the shade they chose.

Scalp care color questions

Can I still color my hair if my scalp itches or stings when I dye it?

That is the worry this service is named for, so we start by looking instead of guessing. At your consultation, your scalp is shown magnified on a screen and explained in plain words, so you see the same view we do before any color is chosen.

Is scalp care color a medical treatment?

No. Scalp care color is hair coloring, and the hair and scalp care we do at JS Hair Therapy is not medical treatment. If your scalp shows something that calls for a doctor's eye, we tell you plainly and point you to one, and you can keep your hair care with us alongside it.

How do I book scalp care color?

You can book online at any time. Choose the consultation as your first visit. It takes 60 minutes, and you leave with a written plan for your case, with sessions in the clinic and care you do at home.
